21: Your Reason For Being

I'm re-reading the book Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life and the first question raised in its first chapter is this:

"What is your reason for being?"

And it reminded me of the past couple of years—and how I've been spending my early 20s pondering my purpose, obsessing over discovering the meaning of my life (and most of the time, getting melancholic for not stumbling upon it yet).

But tonight, for the first time in a while, as I'm sitting and writing this piece in front of a moonlit window that willingly lets the cold breeze in to caress my face, I'm realizing that it's okay to not figure out the rest and essence of my whole life just yet.

It's not that I don't care about the reason I exist; I just won't force and rush to find the reasons why I'm here.

Right now? My reason for being is to just be.
