25: What I Learned From My First 10km Run
Considering my sedentary lifestyle, finishing a 10k run is a feat for me. 🙌🏼
Here are three things I learned from the experience:
1. Preparation is part of the game
The way we take care of ourselves, commit to training, and give our best even before the event itself all count.
How we practice is how we perform.
2. Comparison isn't always helpful
Maybe in a race, you run to win. But in life, we mostly run to finish well—not to be better than someone else but to be better than who we were yesterday. Instead of obsessing over how others are running their race (and lives), we must focus on our growth and journey.
3. Seeing things through is key
My friend Ilyanah writes, "Planning usually doesn't count. It's the execution that accomplishes goals. It's what gets you to the finish line."
I have a lot of ideas; the trouble is finding the energy and motivation to follow through. So I feel proud for trying something new today and not flaking out—for running until the end instead of quitting.
